Eynhallow  1841   Census

It should be noted that in the 1841 census the ages of adults
were rounded down to the nearest multiple of 5.
E.g. the age of anyone aged from 21-24 was given as 20,
and the age of anyone aged from 26-29 was given as 25.

Note:    Eynhallow is a small island near Rousay. It supported four or five families at one time.but was vacated in 1851 shortly after a census was taken in the Spring of that year.  The family that lived in North House on Eynhallow in 1841 was still there in 1851 but the family name was Inkster and not Linklater as shown in the census returns above.  All the evidence leads to the belief that a transcription error took place at some stage of recording the details of this family in the 1841 census. I have inserted the correct surname, Inkster, in the census copy above.
